Is staying at home enough to avoid spreading a virus like Convid-19?

Updated: Mar 19, 2020

Staying at home to avoid a virus spreading is what people that can stay at home should do.

But there are people out there working that cannot stay at home, they are oblidged to work.

There are people that get to see thousands of others everyday even in a crisis situation, they work at airports, supermarkets, delivery, hospitals.

Some of them may stay under the same roof with vulnerable people of third or fourth age. This is quite often due to austerity of the last decade. The generation of the economic crisis of 2010 didn't make it to built their own independent family and they stay in close bonds with their families. So we have those people between 25 and 40 that work and frequently go back to their 70 to 80 year old parents. So even though their parents stay at home, this is not enough.

But what about the State, can the state do something more than persuating the people to stay at home?

First of all even this step seems simple, it is not. It is advantageous to close schools early and to provide continuitity of work from home. Persuate people that is for their own good to stay at home and not mingle, take social distance of 2m ~ 6 Feet, go to the supermarkets in few, wash a lot their hands don't handshake, don't hug.

The state of course must concern about the vulnerable citizens.

Can the state protect vulnerable citizens proactively, way before they would need to go to the hospital?

Yes, by providing them at home, medicine, food or what ever they need to stay at home.

Local municipality has to take this role fast. Call elders for their needs leave the goods outside their doors give them a phone call and leave. No need for a personal contact.

Is there something else that the state can do?

Yes by testing the most exposed workers everyday at least statistically getting frequent samples. Of course on voluntary basis as we need to remain free.

Especially hospitals, airports, supermarkets, pharmacies employees and of course foreign visitors.

Feeling responsible.. and personal responsibility is much different than getting tested. If you get negative it doesn't mean you will stop caring, of course tomorrow you can be positive as the virus has a silence period of 14 days but 5 days in average.

Let's see the benefits for the society of getting tested for those that can't stay at home cause of their work.

1. if you are asymptomatic and positive you go home even if you are a doctor (not in the middle of a surgery) or a cashier. Without testing you would just still be working in the front line and spreading the virus than fighting it.

So we need some people to get tested everyday. Cause maybe the test today failed to track the virus.

There is a standard procedure for getting tested and it is described by WHO.

When I say testing I don't mean a thermometer. A thermometer is not medical testing for a virus. Fever may not be present even if you are affected.

I repeat the benefit is that the asymptomatic person that is positive will go home officially and stop spreading.

2. When you will go home if there are vulnerable people that you live with and you are positive they would know it and get some measures. Maybe go somewhere else. In many cases people stay with their parents even if they are 40 cause of economical austerity. So local municipilaty in case someone staying with vulnerable people and is positive should provide a small apartment for 14 days.

OK and now the typical argument of not getting tested : don't get tested today because maybe tomorrow you will be positive.... I can dismiss this argument with logic but I understand the emotion. People are afraid that if someone is negative won't stay at home.

But guys we are talking about people that by default are on the front line and go to work.

Summarizing staying at home 🏡 of course works for those that can stay at home but ask your government to mobilize the local municipality and provide elders goods and facilitation. Test everyday the most exposed that live with vulnerable population, hospitals, airports, supermarkets, pharmacies employees, that are close or live with elders. Test the visitors that are coming from other countries not with a thermometer but with a medical way. Thermometer is not clever for asymptomatic patients. Give priority on testing people that are exposed the most to symptomatic population and are close with vulnerable population. Give priority on testing vulnerable people close to symptomatic population.

Nelson Mandela NEVER said that fools multiply when wise men stay silent 😶. Either we agree or not, this rumour spread as it was not tested. Don't let the virus spread in the same way.
STAY AT HOME | WASH HANDS | DON'T PUT YOUR HANDS IN YOUR MOUTH EYES NOSE | TEST THE MOST EXPOSED THAT LIVE WITH VULNERABLE PEOPLE | SOCIAL DISTANCE | PROACTIVELY ACT LIKE YOU ARE INFECTED AND ISOLATE BUT STAY HAPPY | FACILITATION BY THE STATE AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES| QUARANTINE ACCOMODATION | SUPPORT THE HEALTH SYSTEM

We hope and pray that UV radiation on the summer days could kill the molecules of the virus CONVID-19 and also to find a vaccine soon and of course a cure for all people
